I purchased the parent version in January. Since then, I have used the programme regularly and can report good results. One fourth-grade reader, who used to read too quickly, was able to improve her reading skills considerably. In this case, the setting: too early eye jump helped in particular. After that, I campaigned for this programme to be purchased as a school version at my main school. We have now been working with the Start-Set since June, especially with pupils in years 6 to 8 in the upper school. Some of these pupils’ reading skills are comparable to those of a first or second grader. On the one hand, the celeco Start-Set has helped me a lot to carry out a proper diagnosis to determine reading skills and, on the other hand, I can closely monitor the progress of the exercises and the development with the regular data collection (with the statistics function switched on). As it has only been possible to organise practice times once a week so far, it is not yet possible to report any significant progress in reading.
However, it is worth mentioning that the pupils have always enjoyed coming to this special practice time despite their actual reluctance to read. As I regularly visit other mainstream schools in the district as a mobile special educational service, I have been able to recommend this programme several times. As a result, I was only invited to present this reading programme at the primary school teachers’ conference on Monday 21 July 2003. A further request to present the programme at the primary school in Laufen will take place in September or October.
