As an “unrecognised dyslexic” (he’s not bad enough for that), our son now struggled until the fifth grade. After all, he “only has a reading and spelling disability” and is therefore “too stupid” to go to secondary school. That was Stefan’s experience so far. School anxiety was his constant companion. He always misspelled the same word in new variations, even though he practised more than other children. That doesn’t exactly build him up. All the exercise books we bought were of no use. Unfortunately, teachers often don’t have the understanding they need for children like this. We have now been working with the programme for 6 months, on average 4 times a week for about 20 minutes. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work miracles quickly either. But for the first time, we can see steady progress. For example, we enter texts from lessons and work on them as part of the programme. For example, for the first time in his entire time at school, he has now written a 3 instead of a 6 in his rewriting! It was like Christmas and his birthday all at once for him. Even though Stefan still misspells a lot, his notebook management has improved so much that his (this time very committed) teacher has noticed. He himself has noticed that he is no longer quite so slow when copying from the board.
